On Fear

It’s important to recognize the connection between fear and aggression (i.e., fight or flight). When a dog perceives a threat, it has only these two options. If flight is prevented by a leash or other form of restraint, the dog may resort to fight. It is rare that a dog is relinquished to a shelter for fear alone. However, relinquishment for aggression is extremely common.
